How To Participate

Becoming a Green School

• All public, private, and homeschool PreK-12 programs are welcome to participate.

• To register as a school, all it takes is one or two committed staff members who are passionate about environmental education and willing to serve as school liaisons for the initiative. They will register the school and submit credits for all teachers at the school.

• Once registered, school liaisons will receive confirmation from KHB of their Provisional Green School status. They will get access to the KHB Green School Initiative Activity Guide and other benefits, like free lesson plans.

• Liaisons will gather information about environmental activities & lessons completed in their school and submit these activities & documentation periodically to KHB.

• Schools that earn 25 credits per year will be recognized at an annual celebration.

Becoming a Green Teacher

• Teachers can also participate individually and be recognized as a Green Teacher!

• Once registered, they will also have access to benefits including the KHB Green School Initiative Activity Guide and our collection of lesson plans.

• Green Teachers must earn 5 credits in one school year for recognition.

• The process for submission is the same as for Green Schools.

• Teachers from public, private, and homeschool programs are welcome to participate.

 

Renewal​

Green Schools and Teachers may renew their Green Status annually. Be sure to register each year by October 1st to confirm your participation in the program.

Submission Requirements

Green School liaisons and individual Green Teachers can submit monthly, quarterly, or annually. To earn credits, we suggest teachers keep track of activities using a spreadsheet. Record the type of activity, date completed, description, number of students served, and supporting documentation. Photos are always welcome as supporting documentation.

To earn Green School & Teacher credits, registered educators may choose from a list of pre-approved lessons and activities or create their own.

Teacher credits can be earned from:​

• Classroom lessons & KHB educator visits

• Experiential learning & hands-on activities

• Classroom community engagement & service

• Professional development

School-wide credits can be earned from all of the above, plus:

• Whole school sustainability projects

• Assemblies focused on environmental education

• Garden & environmental clubs

• Outdoor learning areas & gardens

• Staff training and initiatives

KHB’s Green School Initiative connects teachers and schools with resources from Keep Hall Beautiful and our local environmental partners. These partnerships allow more students in our community to Think Green & Fight Dirty – Because It’s All for Hall!
